We have breaking news that the Astros have fired Courtney from her duties as manager and have replaced her with the family cat in a very public display of nepotism. When the Chronicle reached out for comment from team owner, Josh, he said, "What does the manager's relationship to the owner have anything to do with baseball? Does she know baseball? She has been present for thousands of games during her 84 dog years, you can bet she knows the game."
This story is very strange and I am sure there will be more to come out in the coming days but we know one thing for sure. Skitty will be tasked with turning around a team that completely napped during FA last year but enter the offseason with a chance to make a big impact.
They are rumored to be in the market for SP during the offseason and they are willing to deal their 3 draft picks for a top of the line starter. We can be sure that the team will look to move some relief pitching as well after making a waiver wire deal for Weber and Van Egmond they suddenly have a glut in the bullpen.
The team signed Arroyo to an amazing long term deal for an amazing 2.5 million dollar a year. If the team can add a couple more starters to compliment Arroyo, Smith, and Lawrence...and the staff can stay healthy, they can make huge strides next year.
We would be remiss without mentioning the amazing career of Jeff Bagwell as he looks poised to retire or leave Houston after 15 amazing years with the Astros organization. After joining the organization in 1990 he went on to hit 338 homeruns, a career .252 hitter he had 2238 hits and 1383 RBIs. It has been obvious over the last season that Father Time had caught up to Bagwell, and it is likely he will do something else within the organization, if the family cat says ok.
As we are about to send this article to press, the new Astro's skipper released a statement that read: While we understand that some people don't like glass ceilings being shattered, but this is about the baseball and not the fact that Skitty is a cat. She is ready to win, meow.
Update at 10:46 CT Skitty's attorney has released a statement: If American hippos have rights, then cats have rights. If cats have rights, then under Texas' Right to Work Law, Skitty has every right to be employed. www.theguardian.com/world/2021/oct/25/pablo-escobar-colombian-hippos-granted-rights-interested-persons-us-court
