Maddog Maddux has to wait no more. Greg went out and won his first start of the year to end the wait of him passing Drysdale for the all time win record. On April 5th he took the mound against the Reds and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits. That was enough for him to get the win, and Hanrahan pitched two scoreless innings for the save as the Braves added insurance runs in the 7th and 8th innings.
Each and every win going forward will break the all time record, as Maddux hopes to keep Smoltzie at bay. John is a scant 3 games back in the chase for setting the all time wins forever.
For now though, Greg gets to glow in the limelight for breaking the record that had stood for 30 years. The records that Drysdale has that will likely never be broken is K’s and Complete Game Shutouts.
