Here it is August already and the runners are rounding the turn and heading down the home stretch. Ryan Freel continues to hold the NL lead. However, Shane Victorino has closed the lead to only 2 bases. Scott Podsednik gives up the second spot to Victorino as Podsednik only stole 7 bases in the last month. Victorino surged with 17 stolen bases. Sanchez gave up the #3 spot to Scott Rolen. Rolen swiped 13 bags since our last report to move out of the tie for 4th. Walker remains at #6, Weeks falls and Utley climbs to lock the in a tie for 7t. Cedeno falls from #6 and Roberts falls one spot from #9. It looks like it is going to be a race down the stretch between Free and Victorino. To me it looks like you have to be in the top 5 right now to make a move for the top but any of them could pop off a Victorino like month and be in the thick of things when we get to September.
The Chase of Lou Brock's NL SB Record of 106
We are 101 games into the season, or 62% of the way in. Freel has stolen a base in 53.4% of games. He is on pace for 86 or 87 stolen bases. It appears it is time to put a fork in this chase for destiny.
