Phillies 2007 July Report
Record: 14-9 Home: 7-5 Road: 7-4
Positive Team Stat: Runs Allowed–386 (3rd) Notes: We are one of the best teams at run prevention. When you have arms like Sheets, Young, Thomson, Hamels, etc. it makes sense why. Negative Team Stat: Walks–335 (16th) Notes: We just haven’t drawn walks like we did a season ago. We are clearly missing Jim Edmonds. I knew we’d miss him somewhat, but not quite like this. Tough times.
Major League Spotlight
Best Hitter: 1B Wil Cordero Stats: .316/.365/.506/.871 OPS 9 2Bs 0 3Bs 2 HRs 18 RBIs 16 Runs 5 BBs 6 Ks Notes: Let’s be real here…Wil Cordero has been a nice sneaky addition, but he probably shouldn’t ever be our best bat in any month, and yet here we are. My offensive core has seriously let me down this year.
Best Pitcher: SPJohn Thomson Stats: 6 Starts 2-1 2.11 ERA 43.2 IP 32 Hs 10 ERs 8 BBs 50 Ks Notes: Could’ve picked a bunch of guys here as they were all around each other, but I feel like Thomson edges the bunch out. WHIP is under 1 and he struck out 50 in just a month’s work. He’s been an excellent addition for us, and while we got him towards the end of his career, we are looking forward to potentially having him finish it here in Philadelphia.
Minor League Spotlight
Prospect: J.P. Howell (AAA) Notes: Howell has done a nice job down there, and eventually will see his moment up on the big league roster. Back to back 20+ save seasons for the lad!
