The race into the post season had the Braves go 19 and 8 as they clenched the NL East Crown once again making it Skippers 28th flag in his 31 years leading said Braves. A reporter asked him about getting another and he said “I’m getting too old to keep on keeping on, so this one was special.”
John Smoltz got back from Florida’s fountain of youth apparently as he had been languishing of late June his ERA was 3.67 with three wins, July it was 3.86 with two wins, then August he stunk up the place with a 6.09 ERA and had a losing month going just 2 and 3. September he woke up and went out and won Pitcher of the Month for the first time since 2004. He went an astounding 5 and oh with a 1.62 ERA. The No decision, he went 9 innings and didn’t give up a run.
