Sad farewell to the departing legend of Greg Maddux;
Today marks the last day of Greg Maddux being a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. Greg joined the Braves as the third overall pick of the 1984 draft. In Spring Training that year Skipper said, “This kid is special and gonna do great things”. Boy, while Skipper was right, it was an understatement.
Won Gold Glove Award at Pitcher in 1987
Was selected to the Allstar game and Won World Series with Atlanta in 1988
Was selected to the 1989 Allstar game and Won Pitcher of the Month award.
Was selected to the Allstar game, Pitched NO-HITTER on two occasions and Won Cy Young Award in 1990.
Was selected to the 1991 Allstar game, Won Pitcher of the Month two times, Won the Cy Young Award and Won the Gold Glove Award at Pitcher.

As of today he is the all time leader in wins with 459, forth lowest ERA, third most shutouts, and eighth in strikeouts. Greg ended with 3990K’s and had tried to get to 4000, just for giggles.
As Greg took a few questions from reporters one asked him how special it was to get another before he retired, and before he could answer Smoltzie stepped up and said “Both Greg and I have five rings…. But I’m coming back next year for one more” and then walked away.
