HOFFBL Organizational Reality Exploitation (HORE) is a real thing. Pirate's owner, JJ, went to the furthest reaches of the planet during the offseason to try to figure out what happened last year. He tried herbal remedies in South America and soul searching in SW Asia but it was the simplest of diagnosis that helped put the 2008 season in order. It was his over belief that his team was in a position to win and acting on said belief, "put the team in a bad position."
It is with this diagnosis in hand that JJ returned to the Astros draft day war room and according to team leaders that were in the room said, "We have a chance to move to Pittsburgh and start fresh. We are doing it." One person speculated that he may have been under the influence of herbal treatment when he made the decision but everyone in the room knew it was likely as soon as the Pittsburgh/Cardinal name trade was made. 1B coach Andy Van Slyke admitted, "We tried to trade team names when we made the preseason trade With Pittsburgh last year." Catcher Coach Mike Lavalier said, "The move made a lot of sense. A lot of this team feels like it would have been a really bad Pirates team in a different dimension and it is home for EL Jefe, that's what we have to call him now."
While many minds exploded at the Winter Meetings this year as the draft order was edited in real time to reflect the name changes, the Pirate's minds were collectively on the upcoming draft and the opportunity it presents to improve the organization. There were some trade rumors swirling that the Pirates were set to make offers with their cache of picks but at the end of the day, nothing happened. One trade had the fans in a collective frenzy. The rumor that Stanton might be a trade target did not end up happening but the rumors are that the Pirates are very happy with the top 10 picks and pretty happy with options that are likely to be on the board into their 2nd round slots.
As we quickly approach the 7 AM hour of my favorite days of the HOFFBL season, we want to point out that the Yankees still have no money.
