Braves 2008 OD the Pitchers
He braves fans, common out to the ballpark and root on the Braves pitching staff. This year we have mainly returning pitchers, with four of the five having spent time with Leo.
The Opening day rotation is missing a familiar name, with Greg Maddux having retired, but 250 game winner Pedro Martinez is stepping into his role.
Bud Smith is the reigning Cy Yong award winner and is Joined by John Smoltz as a former winner as well. The Depth at SP is amazing and could easily end up with four 20 game winners as Smoltz, Rupe Smith and Pedro all have 20+ win seasons. RA Dickey in the 5th spot is no slouch either.
When it comes to the bullpen the Braves have had one of the best over the past few seasons. Valverde missed another 50 Save season by four, but was so dominating last season, there was no reason to even have a poll as to who was the best. In over 50 games he only allowed a run in two games, finishing 8 – 0 and 46 saves is insane. Rumor has it he wants to break Doug Corbett’s record for saves.
Behind Valverde is Hanrahan and Strickland. Strickland only gave up 7 runs for the season last year in 49 innings of work as the early reliever. Set up man extraordinaire Joel Hanrahan was just as amazing as Valverde and in 37 innings setting up for Valverde only gave up four earned runs.
Adding to this amazing group, the Braves brought in Mark Wohlers. While Mark is old, he still has the stuff to dominate in relief.
