In the continued effort to get younger and strengthen the long term core of this team, there are a few guys I'd like to move.
SP Don Newcombe: Yes, he's making a lot at 13.5 million. This is also his walk year and I could kick in a few mil in cash if it would help. He's 33, eats innings (hasn't pitched fewer than 260 for me since coming to DC), he's good for 14+ CG a season (good for saving bullpens) and his stats have been improving for the past three seasons.

SP George Zuverink: At 7-7, George's record is very misleading as a reference to the season he's had. He's 2nd in ERA in the AL and 3rd in Runners/9. He's allowed only 105 hits in 131 innings, struck out 80 and is 12 for 16 in QS. He's also thrown 5 CG, his an Opp Avg against right handed hitters of .194 (.248 v LH) and has allowed three or fewer ER in 7 of his last 10 starts. He signed an extension earlier in the season (3 yr/ 2.53 mil per) and in a pinch he's an efficient Closer, too. (30 saves in 1959, 5th in the league with a 3.70 ERA). He can help a division leader put close teams out of reach or get needed wins for a contender.

OF Jackie Jensen: He just signed a new deal through 1962 and he's putting up what looks like is going to be a career year. He's a great defender with an "A" OF range in Left (3 time Gold Glove winner) who plays all three OF positions with a F% of 995 or better. He's a good veteran player who should be playing for a contender.

SP Ruben Gomez: Ruben was having a rough year in Philly and has spent his time in AAA since coming over to Washington (he's getting called up next sim). At this point Gomez is a back of the rotation innings eater (#3 to 5) who could pick up a few more wins before the end of the season. His contract has about 8 million left on it through the end of the 1962 season. He hasn't pitched fewer than 270 IP before last year (he was used out of the Pen).

SP Mike Garcia: He's had a rough tenure in Chicago this season, which accounts for the bloated ERA. Upon his entry to Washington, he promptly silenced the Red Sox bats to the tune of a complete game five- hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks while only giving up one run. Perhaps he'll have a little bit of a resurgence with us.

Feel free to ask about others.
Please don't ask about Killebrew or Flood on the ML roster. I'm might discuss prospects, but don't ask about Haller, Stange or Tiant.
My interest is in getting young bats, especially in the infield. I'd also like players with above average defensive ratings and power. I need a few sluggers.
