Cubs' signing of Cedeno was the only offer 20M+, so that signing will be honored and not subject to a blind bid auction.
Padres' signing of Thomas was the only offer 20M+, so that signing will be honored and not subject to a blind bid auction.

So do Thomas n Cedeno go to auction since they are over 20 mill? Isn't that the new thing due to the glitch?

It's going to be really hard to compete with teams that can do that.
I've often wondered if real major leaguers phrase their denials of offered contracts as insults like they sometimes do in OOTP.
Oh well. At least they both ended up in the NL.

I've been pushing my payroll past my mid-upper tier to top tier payroll by constantly using assets to acquire cash

I'm just saying that it's hard to keep pace with that. I had plenty of room available (and will have a lot more of it after this season) and made good offers on both. I'm not mad that I didn't get them, especially at 7 years. That could be an albatross in the last three.

That could be an albatross in the last three. to me it just mirrors real baseball I made a solid but under the radar offer to a Good hits Brilliant Homers guy who was only 30 and it paid off with the bigger guys on the market. I got him for less than he'd probably go for in a lot of years by several million.

I agree it's hard, but the good thing it was just one player to one of those teams. They took the risk and will likely pay for it in a couple seasons and do a full rebuild, allowing other teams a chance to compete.
It would be bad if the same team was constantly offering 20M+ to win over the guys each season and that doesn't happen here.
In this case, it seems like it's a last-ditch effort for the Cubs to win and given the Pirates and Reds are rebuilding and Cardinals are going to be getting out of it soon, this is the perfect chance for the Cubs to stay on top for 2-3 seasons until the Cardinals come calling. As for the Padres, I think they were desperate to keep Thomas and if they traded for cash earlier before trade deadline, they would have resigned him anyway to 20M, so it was just a delayed signing bonus and guarantee to keep him. To me, I see it as a $5M crutch to keep the team together for 2-3 more seasons until the Giants take over.
I think these are good signings.

I think at one point, I might have said anytime they get a 20M offer, but I meant once they get a second 20M offer, then the bug is in play and ruins it.

My offer to Cedeno was totally in an attempt to make a last run at it over the next few years. I've depleted my minor league system in an effort to win now and it will undoubtedly catch me. The good news is my major league team is relatively young, even Cedeno, so hopefully I have a little bit of staying power. Was kind of shocked that nobody else went 20+.

Same, I was shocked it didn't happen with Thomas either. But the rule is there whenever it happens again.
Honestly, I'm surprised there aren't more 20M contracts. Everyone is stingy lol.

If I was a year closer I'd have put more big offers out there. I've just got to figure out where my holes are and then see how to fill them

Stingy or fiscally responsible with thier teams? If I felt like over paying and have to trade away points n players for money all the time to pay for a ridiculous payroll maybe but no thx.
