Pete: Hey Braves fans, it's Skip and Pete here with another wrap up for the end of the regular season in Braves baseball.
Skip: So the Braves broke a few franchise records this season.
Pete: Broke, they shattered them
Skip: True, the first being attendance, this is something they have been doing every year, just getting more and more people to show up and see them night after night. After almost breaking the record in 77 falling 3500 fans shy with 3.6 million fans since then it's been 4.1, 4.5, 4.5 and then this year just smacked it with 4.75 million.
Pete: Only once in franchise history had the Braves eclipsed the 100 win mark and that was a 101 win season in '53, but this past season they crushed it with 113 wins having the best record in all of baseball.
Skip: Sadly, having the best record in baseball doesn't seem to matter much once the playoffs start.
Pete: Reggie and Richie were the top two homer kings for the year, though Reggie missed his 3rd straight 40/40 season by 2 homers, but had his 4th consecutive 30/30 campaign.
Skip: Tom Terrific had 25 wins for the season bringing him within 11 of 300 for his career. The yearly magical number of 20 wins escaped both Housman and Matlack which both posted 19 win seasons.
Pete: The season started with a toss up for the number 5 starter between Hartzell and Fulgham, and eventually Fulgham won the spot and went 13-5 as a starter, with Caveman Robinson having another solid year to follow up his rookie of the year season going 14-7 with a 3.30 ERA.
Skip: Tonight the Braves beat the Philly's (who they will be facing in the NLDS) to end the season, and immediately reporters started asking manager BrianH about the playoffs to which he said, "To quote one of my favorite songs burning up the chart 'Ain't even done with the night', give us the team to rejoice in our accomplishment of this season, and tomorrow you can ask about the NLDS..."
I have to admit, it's one of my all time favorite songs, as simplistic as the chord progression is, just love it.
