Red Sox Blowing It Up
-- Boston, MA
After the disappointing end to the last few seasons, with exits in the divisional series in all 3 years, the Red Sox front office is in the process of radical changes to the foundation of the franchise, both philosophically and physically. Ownership has made clear their frustration with hemorrhaging money each year while the team under-performs. Owner Steve Crowe was quoted as saying "This team is deep in the red and our talent, while being a group of great players, just seems to be unable to get the job done." The entire team minus star SS Wade Boggs and Ace Roger Clemens has been made available for trade, and Boston hopes to focus more on building a sustainable minor league system, and not being stuck with large contracts that cut the team off at the knees in future years. Contracts like that of SP Tom Hausmann and CF Fred Lynn have made the team unable to build an all-around solid team at every position, and it shows when playoff time comes.
Boggs and Clemens were both reached out to for comment on being singled out as the two pieces that will definitely not being going anywhere, and they both expressed gratitude towards the organization for the loyalty and understand that if they want a ring, this is the best option to do it at Fenway. Both are committed to helping it happen and will be working with the hitters and pitchers that come in future years. Other players reached out to who are on the list of potential trade candidates are disappointed with the way the team ended up losing, but understand that the team has done more than it has been able to sustain to try and win them all rings. Hopefully the teams they end up on are more fortunate than this era of Boston baseball, and the front office has made it their singular goal to make the next run finally the one to bring a title home to Boston.
