The playoffs are here, and looking at the match up of the White Sox vs the Mariners.
SP
Chicago will possibly roll out a 3 man rotation of Randy Johnson, Bob Walk, and Walt Terrell. During the regular season they were a combined 62 - 20, with Johnson having the worst era at 2.24.
Sea -a tad deeper at SP, it'll be interesting which 3 they choose to go with, Orel is a shoe in to be on the staff, but if you went by wins, it'd be Davis and Denny joining Orel with a 55-20 record combined.
Advantage WS
C
Chicago has a pretty good catcher with the youngster Myers
Sea - Tettleton kills at the plate, but zero range behind it.
Advantage Sea
1B
WS Big daddy Fielder has power, but no speed, no defence and just so so hitting for average, whereas the big hurt, while not the greatest with a glove, and also pretty slow on the basepaths is capable of just wearing out opposing pitchers.
Sea - Pete O'brien... won of the greatest offensive seasons ever
Advantage Sea
2B
WS - Youngster Alomar, is amazing with a glove, pure speed to steal at will, and one of the sweetest strokes in the game. A definite contender to try and over take Julio Cruz one day for most steals ever.
Sea - Franco is one of the best SB in the league... however just not as good as Alomar
Advantage WS
SS
WS- Larkin has range and a good glove, which is the main thing you want for a SS. He also has the ability to steal a base anytime, against anyone.
Sea- Hubbard has a great glove, and silky smooth bat
advantage - Sea
3B
WS- Koji is a solid balplayer, but is nothing to write home to mom about.
Sea- Martinez is one of the best 3B in the league when it comes to hitting, slightly suspect in the field and no speed.
Advantage Sea
LF
WS- Ricky is in a class with very few members, sweet stroke, power, can steal at will, and perennially could compete for a gold glove.
Sea - Two OK LF's
Advantage WS
CF
WS- Joe has a sweet stroke and power with a bat, decent speed, but suffers a tad with range in CF.
Sea - Kingly has power and a decent glove
Adv - WS
RF
WS- feel the Bern, out in RF, and will wear out pitchers with hit after hit. If he was a musical group, he'd constantly be in the top 40 with another hit. If he can put his glove on a ball, he'll catch it, problem is he has trouble getting to some balls.
Sea- Buhner has power and pretty good with his glove
Adv - toss up
DH
WS- Fielder will probably get the call, and he has power.
Sea- Brett still has the tools to be amazing at the plate
Adv - Sea
On paper Seattle matches up well with the White Sox, but it is the prediction that the White Sox will dispatch Seattle.
