Tuesday 7/12/2005: Luke Hudson out for 6 weeks
CHICAGO (N) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (N)'s right-hander Luke Hudson will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Los Angeles (N) where he left the field in the 3rd inning. Hudson was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 18 starts this year Luke struck out 108 batters in 122.1 innings of work. His ERA is 3.53, his record 9-4.
Monday 7/11/2005: Player of the Week honors go to Greene and Wells
Kansas City's rightfielder Willie Greene had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Willie pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .429 with 5 HR and 17 RBI while slugging 1.190. He now has homered in 4 consecutive games as well! Vernon Wells from Arizona wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League. In 22 at bats he hit .409 with 6 HR and 11 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 9 games. He now has homered in 6 consecutive games as well! Wells has hit 27 homeruns this year while batting .256. He adds 19 doubles, along with 57 runs scored.
Saturday 7/9/2005: St. Louis' Wainwright severely injured
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' right-hander Adam Wainwright will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Washington on Saturday. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Ligament Elbow. His ERA of 3.26 helped him to a 8-4 record this year. He struck out 84 and walked 33 in 110.1 innings.
Saturday 7/9/2005: Wilton Guerrero ropes four hits, completes cycle
CLEVELAND - Wilton Guerrero is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A pitch from Jae Weong Seo in the 1st inning left his bat for a RBI double. His 2nd hit was a triple off Jae Weong Seo in the 3rd inning. A single in the 4th off Jae Weong Seo accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 6th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Brendan Donnelly. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Wilton scored 2 runs, and he collected 4 RBI as well! His 4 hit performance increases his batting average to .261. He's now the 125th player in league history to hit for the cycle! On 9/17/2004, Shawn Wooten was the last player to hit for the cycle.

PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's shortstop Nomar Garciaparra hurt himself in the 3rd inning while making a routine throw to first base. He experienced serious pain and had to leave the game. Nomar Garciaparra will miss at least 6 weeks. Garciaparra was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. SAN FRANCISCO - Pedro Martinez took the mound and never left. And San Francisco hitters couldn't touch him at all. Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 22 career shutouts in 411 games started. Martinez (11-5) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking 1, throwing 119 pitches. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' The hitting star for Los Angeles (N) was first baseman David Ortiz, he finished 3 for 5, homering once, doubling once, scoring three times.
