Wednesday 7/27/2007: Carlos Zambrano pitches his 3rd shutout of the season
BOSTON - Boston's right-hander Carlos Zambrano is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Detroit on just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 9th time he has done it in his career. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Zambrano (11-1) struck out 7 and walked 1, throwing 67 of 110 pitches for strikes. Boston's designated hitter Lance Berkman finished with 1 hit in 3 AB, blasting a homerun, with 3 RBI. Monday 7/25/2007: Eli Marrero out for full season
COLORADO - Colorado's catcher Eli Marrero suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Broken Hip which will require surgery. He has hit 5 homeruns while batting .266 this season. His 89 hits and 11 walks add up to a .289 on-base percentage.
Monday 7/25/2007: Huge blow for Seattle's Militello, career over
SEATTLE - It was one of baseball saddest days. Seattle's right-hander Sam Militello fell victim to a career ending injury in a game against Oakland on Monday. He complained about pain after throwing a pitch to Freddy Sanchez, then suddenly collapsed. Militello was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Tricep Muscle. In 20 starts this year Sam struck out 62 batters in 104.1 innings of work. His ERA is 5.35, his record 7-5. His career featured a record of 88-72 with an ERA of 5.07. Baseball will certainly miss this great player.
Monday 7/25/2007: Chicago (N)'s Victorino wins Player of the Week award
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Detroit's Justin Verlander this time, as the pitcher displayed the best pitching perfomance in his league. Friday 7/22/2007: Shane Victorino blisters three bombs
CINCINNATI - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. His 1st shot, off Jason Johnson in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Jason Johnson. A pitch from Terry Adams in the 4th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 409 feet from home plate in right-center. Overall he collected 5 hits in 5 trips to the plate, hitting a double, scoring FIVE times and collecting 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 11, along with 63 RBI.
