Just assign a draft order and each team can pick who they want based on their situation Sounds as fair as anything else Or just retire everybody

Happy to see some positive feedback on my idea.
Just thought it was simple, and honestly easy and 100% fair for everyone.
I also think that Chris needs to be evenly put into this. None of this taking the worst player like he said for himself. If we use a random.org way of distributing players there is no reason he can’t be a part of it and have the same chance to nab the best guys like the rest of us.

I'm open the randomly assigning 28 players to teams and releasing all of the others. The question is are we just talking about the top 28 prospects or the top 28 players (ie: Vlad)? In other words, should this random assignment be for blue stars or for blue and gold stars? I would prefer just blue star guys still on a minor league contract. All gold stars and anyone on a major league contract become free agents. Only thing I feel is if we only do blue stars then the quality of players really drops off after the first 5. If we allow all the players then it’s a little deeper. but then I also understand where that gets tricky with contracts. So maybe your idea is best to just do a random assignment with the blue star players and allow for the gold stars to hit free agency If not that, then stools concept of simply assigning a random draft order and allowing a 1 round contraction draft allows teams to pick a player according to their situation. Don’t mind this either and a 1 round draft of 28 picks should go pretty quickly.

Yeah, I really don't like randomly assigning players to teams, esp. when it comes to marginal top-28 guys (stud with a huge contract, etc). Plus then you have to rank the players.
I keep coming back to wanting a draft, at least for 1-2 rounds. If you don't want to reward tanking teams, then do the order based on a random number generator or something more abstract than single-season record (for example, what about all-time Winning %?)

I just think about in terms f real life, i.e. what would the real leagues do? We haven't had a lot of contraction in our lifetimes, but the bottom line is that players are signed to guaranteed contracts and irl those contracts would likely not be torn up and thrown out. Perhaps the contracting team would have to pay the odd player out but I think largely the contracts would be dispersed as-is amongst the other teams.

That not wanting a big contract part is where 0lays idea comes in. Don't want him say no pick from the leftover pool

If we draft, what happens to players with expiring contracts? Go into FA?

depends on who goes into the pool.
if we do all players, any expiring contracts selected will be extended one (1) season at the same salary.
if we just do blue stars still in the minors, its moot since you won't be selecting anyone with salary.
