Tuesday 7/26/2010: Richie Sexson ropes 2000th career hit
PITTSBURGH - Richie Sexson got a standing ovation from 25340 fans in Pittsburgh, who witnessed his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Richie collected 445 homeruns and 1340 RBI in 14 seasons. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' His hit in the 7th inning was a single off Johan Santana.
Monday 7/25/2010: Player of the Week honors go to Lee and Billingsley
The American League's best player of the week was Baltimore's Derrek Lee, who wins the award for the 4th time in his career. Derrek pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .421 with 5 HR and 15 RBI while slugging 1.211. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Chad Billingsley, one of San Francisco's best starting pitchers. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.53 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well.
Saturday 7/23/2010: Clayton Kershaw out for 8 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N)'s lefty Clayton Kershaw suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 8 weeks. In the 4th of the game against St. Louis he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Los Angeles (N) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Kershaw had suffered a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. Clayton has a record of 9-9 this season, with an ERA of 5.06. In 144 Innings he was able to strike out 77 batters. Clayton has pitched one shutout and 4 complete games.
Friday 7/22/2010: Oliver Perez blanks Los Angeles (N) with a 2-hitter
LOS ANGELES (N) - Oliver Perez took the mound and never left. And Los Angeles (N) hitters couldn't touch him at all. St. Louis' lefty gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 13 career shutouts in 222 games started. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Perez (12-5) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 1, throwing 120 pitches. Jack Cust provided St. Louis with the offense Perez needed as he got 1 hit in 3 AB, hitting a homerun, and driving in 2 runs. St. Louis scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
