Breaking News Friday, 9/23/2010 Wednesday 9/21/2010: Philadelphia's Matsui severely injured PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's Hideki Matsui suffered a serious injury Wednesday in a game against St. Louis. Matsui fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Abdominal Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. His season features a batting average of .256 (135 hits in 527 AB), 35 doubles, no triples and 10 homeruns. Matsui collected 71 RBI and 68 runs as well. Monday 9/19/2010: Evan Longoria out for 5-6 weeks TORONTO - Toronto's third baseman Evan Longoria will miss at least 5-6 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Pulled Achilles Tendon was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His season features a batting average of .300 (147 hits in 490 AB), 39 doubles, one triple and 11 taters. Longoria collected 79 RBI and 69 runs as well. Monday 9/19/2010: Texas' Ohman severely injured TEXAS - Texas' pitcher Will Ohman was part of a scary incident that saw the southpaw being hit by a line drive in the 8th inning of the game between Texas and Chicago (A). Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Ohman will miss about 6 weeks. Broken Finger was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. His ERA of 2.85 helped him to a 7-2 record this year. He struck out 69 and walked 12 in 79 innings. Monday 9/19/2010: Beltran (TEX) and Guerrero (ATL) win P.O.W. award It's the 8th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Texas' centerfielder Carlos Beltran. Carlos was on fire, hitting .500 with 3 HR and 8 RBI. The National League's best player of the week was Atlanta's Vladimir Guerrero, who wins the award for the 13th time in his career. Vladimir was on fire, hitting .542 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. He has hit 27 longballs while batting .332 this season. His 176 hits and 59 walks add up to a .405 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the National League in batting and 5th in RBI! Sunday 9/18/2010: New York (N)'s Cornejo severely injured NEW YORK (N) - New York (N) is without its right-hander Nate Cornejo for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Tommy Manzella in a game against Chicago (N). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being taken to a local hospital, Cornejo was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Bicep Tendon. His ERA of 2.76 helped him to a 19-10 record this year. He struck out 266 and walked 52 in 287 innings. He has 9 complete games and 2 shutouts. He's 7th in the National League in wins! Saturday 9/17/2010: Craig Breslow out for 5-6 weeks LOS ANGELES (A) - When it rains, it pours. Los Angeles (A)'s left-hander Craig Breslow will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Houston where he left the field in the 9th inning. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Pulled Tricep Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. Craig has a record of 1-5 this season, with an ERA of 5.03. In 68 Innings he was able to strike out 40 batters.
