Sunday 7/30/2011: Miami's Freddie Freeman unloads three times
MIAMI - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Miami's first baseman Freddie Freeman accomplished that feat in a 14-3 win over New York (A). His 1st blast, a two-run homerun off Rocky Cherry in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 335 feet from home plate. His 2nd shot, off Kris Medlen in the 5th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right field. Number 3 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 334 feet, cleared the wall in right field. Overall he finished with 5 hits in 6 AB, scoring three times and driving in 7 runs. His homerun total this year is 28, along with 82 RBI.
Thursday 7/27/2011: Juan Pierre nabs five hits against St. Louis
CHICAGO (A) - Juan Pierre hits 'em where they ain't. St. Louis certainly agrees as Chicago (A)'s centerfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 1st hit was a double off Brian Rose in the 1st inning. His 2nd hit was a double off Brian Rose in the 2nd inning. His 3rd hit was a double off Brian Rose in the 5th inning. In the 8th inning he unloaded a RBI triple off Mike V. Gonzalez. He collected a single in the 7th. Juan did drive in one while scoring 2 runs on his own. He is hitting .294 this season, with 3 HR and 43 RBI. The final score of the game was 8-2.
Wednesday 7/26/2011: Nick Adenhart out for 5 weeks
CHICAGO (N) - When it rains, it pours. Chicago (N)'s right-hander Nick Adenhart will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Houston where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Adenhart was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Bone Chips Elbow. In 21 starts this year Nick struck out 118 batters in 154 innings of work. His ERA is 2.40, his record 13-4. Nick has pitched 3 shutouts and 4 complete games.
Wednesday 7/26/2011: Chad Billingsley NO-HITS Baltimore
BALTIMORE - San Francisco's right-hander Chad Billingsley made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Baltimore. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Billingsley (15-6) fanned 6 and walked 4, throwing 125 pitches. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Angel Pagan helped Billingsley at the plate, he went 1 for 4, doubling once, with 3 RBI. San Francisco scored 3 runs on 5 hits.
Tuesday 7/25/2011: Gonzalez (MIN) and Johnson (NYM) win P.O.W. award
The American League's best player of the week was Minnesota's Adrian Gonzalez, who wins the award for the 5th time in his career. Adrian pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .458 with 3 HR and 9 RBI while slugging 1.083. Adrian managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. The National League's best player of the week was New York (N)'s Kelly Johnson, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career.
