Saturday 5/2/2015: Cleveland's Esteban German gets milestone hit
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's shortstop Esteban German joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! In 15 years of big league action so far, Esteban has compiled a batting average of .248, along with 167 homeruns and 957 RBI. 'Baseball is a great game, and adding something to it's history is smething I've always wanted. What a great day!' With no outs in the 8th inning, Esteban drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
Friday 5/1/2015: Cole and Smith receive Pitcher of the Month award
It's the 1st time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to New York (A)'s pitcher Gerrit Cole. He started 3 games in April, going 3-0 and compiling an ERA of 0.00 in 25 innings. Gerrit fanned 11 hitters. Gerrit got two complete game shutouts as well! New York (A)'s Bud Smith had a terrific April, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. He went 5-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 0.22. He struck out 26 in 40 innings. Bud fired two shutouts!
Friday 5/1/2015: St. Louis' Goldschmidt named Batter of the Month
It's the 3rd time that the American League Batter of the Month award goes to New York (A)'s first baseman Justin Morneau. In 80 at bats he hit .350 with 9 HR and 23 RBI. The Batter of the Month award in the National League goes to St. Louis' Paul Goldschmidt this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Goldschmidt helped his team with an average of .378 and 20 RBI in 98 at bats.
Wednesday 4/29/2015: Brian Kintzler pitches his 3rd shutout of the season
NEW YORK (N) - Brian Kintzler took the mound and never left. And Philadelphia hitters couldn't touch him at all. New York (N)'s right-hander gave up just 2 hits in his 3rd shutout of the season. He now has 36 career shutouts in 150 games started. Kintzler (3-1) struck out none and issued 1 BB, throwing 60 of 96 pitches for strikes. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' KANSAS CITY - Great days are rare. But not for Kansas City's left-hander James Paxton. Houston found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. Paxton (3-2) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 104 pitches. 'I was hitting my spots. Now I'll start concentrating on my next start, and hopefully it will work again.' Kansas City's first baseman Matt Olson collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a homerun, with 3 RBI. Carl Crawford wins his 0th Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. SEATTLE - When it rains, it pours. Seattle's right-hander Mike Clevinger will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Minnesota where he left the field in the 2nd inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Tricep Muscle. ST. LOUIS - It was an unbelievable day for St. Louis' right-hander Walker Buehler. The 20-year old pitched a no-hitter against Pittsburgh on Friday, showing that he may have a great career in front of him. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Buehler (2-1) did not have perfect control, walking 9. He struck out 6.
