What is it going to take to get the trading back in the league?
It's getting boring and stagnant to the point I'm not sure how much longer it's worth it to anyone. If it weren't for Stoool and his crazy off season trading, I'm not sure there would have been any trades worth mentioning.
I'm saying this partially because I'm rebuilding and have guys to trade, and partially because the off-season and trade deadlines are boring.
Thoughts?

I don't think it's going to change, for a lot of reasons, and I agree. I almost quit this offseason. I was really close.
Some of the problem is that we still have inactive owners/teams. Some of the problem is that I think some of us have played this game together for too long. Some of the problem is the amount (or lack thereof) of talent. Some of the problem is that it's the same teams that are competitive year after year, for the most part. The list goes on and on. I'm really not sure there is a fix. Kind of hoping for a reboot in a newer version of OOTP, but I doubt that will happen.
Edit: And some of it is unreal trade expectations. Some folks have in their mind what they want for their 30-something year old player, but that isn't the market. Rather than trade at the market price, they'd rather hang on to said player until he either retires, walks as a FA, or takes a PD hit that they don't fix, and thus loses value.

I tried to offer what I thought was pretty good stuff to NY for one or two of their pieces and just got denied constantly. I was offering 1st round picks+ for 32+ year old guys and not even getting counters
when the value is that high on old guys no trades will ever happen

Shoot emails to competing teams....stir the pot.
I can't speak for others, but I ONLY trade when I absolutely have to.....and with the Angels, I might not trade til the 90's lol

By the same token, what's the point of adding worthless pieces for 30+ year olds? I have lots of young minor league guys who are just okay, and adding more wouldn't help me in any way.

Depends what you mean by worthless. People fail to realize that sometimes those 3* players get PD bumps and turn into studs, or very good players. I never draft high in this league, but usually have 4.5* and 5* prospects. How? Because I don't give up on mediocre prospects that still have time to develop. Not to mention, you trade off an expensive player, you save money, that money can be sold and turned into points, which can be spend to increase your players' talents. It's not rocket science.

A lot of these teams that are close to winning dont want to take that extra step to deal for the win. I realized to go all out back when i won back to back when bringing in blasingame, aparicio etc. But we got teams who could win but they also constantly wont give up their prospects to win.
Add in that this league already overly talented to due draft rate ups, and the points system. A lot of the guys available. people got guys like them.
plus half the league doesnt really seem that active either.

Yeah and that's normally my strategy. But even when they're 4.5-5 star type of guys a lot of them are pretty much garbage. So why bother adding someone who, even if they get good PD, will still top out as a backup?

There are very specific times when I choose to make trades, and I am aggressive during that time (like this year--3 major trades!). Otherwise, I am not really interested. Does that make me inactive? I hope not. Sometimes it is the best strategy not to trade, and I try to identify those times.

Plus, some of the GMs who like to trade don't advertise guys that I am interested in, and others drive a hard bargain. Why waste my time with the back-and-forth when I know they are just trying to screw me?

Why waste my time with the back-and-forth when I know they are just trying to screw me? This is the biggest issue of all of them. Nobody wants to deal fairly. They want to win every deal. That stuff works in real life where things are more debatable, but in a game like this where there are clear cut ratings and talent levels trying to win the deal every time makes you come off looking like an asshole.

I've got a list of guys I won't even start talking trade to anymore because I know how they operate.

Pretty much my feelings. Some around here ask for your best prospects for 34 year old. But when the situation is reversed they refuse to offer any value for your vets. It gets old fast and those people end up on the bottom of my trade talk list.
