File and pages are up; the deadline for roster moves, extensions, releases and reward camps is SATURDAY NIGHT at 8:00 PM EASTERN. I will reverse the career-enders, if there are any, as well. The actual flip will probably be a couple hours later as it takes time to do so.
The off-season is going to take a little longer than usual as I need to do the ammy players. Darryl is working on the 1981 file for me. Matt, let me know if you want 1982.

Thursday 10/27/1979: San Francisco's Gullett named Cy Young Award
The American League Cy Young Award winner was announced today, with Chicago (A)'s right-hander Andy Messersmith taking home the desired trophy. He certainly earned it, he struck fear into hitters all year long. This season Messersmith compiled an ERA of 1.75, going 25-10 in 38 starts. He fanned 174 while giving up 234 hits in 319.2 innings. He has 23 complete games and 7 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 2nd in wins! Messersmith wins the award for the 2nd time in his 11-year career. Awards may not be the most important thing for Don Gullett, but San Francisco's southpaw smiled as he was named the National League Cy Young Award winner. Don has a record of 28-5 this season, with an ERA of 2.20. In 311.1 Innings he was able to strike out 112 batters. Don has pitched 4 shutouts and 17 complete games. He's 4th in the National League in ERA and 1st in wins!

Kansas City's third baseman George Brett will never forget this day. A great season convinced the voters that he is the worthy American League Most Valuable Player Award winner. Brett has walked 78 times this year and posts a .402 OBP. While batting .321, 181 for 563, he has driven in 127 runs. He's 2nd in the American League in batting, 7th in homeruns and 1st in RBI! It was a day to remember for San Diego's Bill Madlock, who won the National League Most Valuable Player Award today. It put the finishing touches on what has been a tremendous season for the slugger. Bill has gone 220 for 631 (.349) this season, hitting 23 homeruns and driving in 109 runs. He has scored 131 runs on his own. He's 1st in the National League in batting and 5th in RBI! Madlock wins the award for the 2nd time in his 6-year career.

The 1979 American League Rookie of the Year Award winner is from Detroit this season. Andre Dawson put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Let's hope more will follow for this 25 year old ballplayer. This year Dawson drove in 100 and scored 101 runs while batting .271 with 20 homeruns. Dale Murphy will never forget his first full season. The National League was convinced that Atlanta's centerfielder, 23 years old, should be the Rookie of the Year Award winner of 1979. Dale has gone 144 for 550 (.262) this season, hitting 24 taters and driving in 99 runs. He has scored 111 runs on his own.
