Monday 5/2/1990: Boston's Sax wins Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Boston's second baseman Steve Sax. Steve was on fire, hitting .393 with 4 HR and 9 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! New York (N)'s pitcher Mike Paxton had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Paxton was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.56. Along the way he struck out 13 in 16 innings. He hurled a shutout as well.
Sunday 5/1/1990: Greg Maddux NO-HITS Houston
HOUSTON - Atlanta's right-hander Greg Maddux made some history today, firing a no-hitter against Houston. Their hitters found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, never having a chance against his overpowering stuff. Dave Magadan spoiled the bid for a perfect game when he walked with no outs in the 6th inning. 'Giving my team a chance to win is the most important thing for me. I was able to do it today, and it's especially nice to do it in such fashion.' Maddux (5-1) struck out 8 and issued 1 BB, throwing 65 of 109 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Atlanta was third baseman Mark Brouhard, he got 1 hit in 4 AB, hitting a homerun. The final score of the game was 1-0.

Chicago (A)'s Bob Walk had a terrific April, and it earned him the American League Pitcher of the month award. He went 5-0 in April and finished the month with an ERA of 1.29. He struck out 43 in 48.2 innings. New York (N)'s Mike Paxton had a terrific April, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. His ERA of just 0.49 helped him to a 1-1 record in April. He worked 37 innings, striking out 26 hitters while walking 6. Mike pitched a shutout as well.

The Batter of the Month award in the American League goes to New York (A)'s Lou Whitaker this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Lou went 34 for 106 (.321), while hitting 5 HR and collecting 22 RBI. The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Rex Hudler, Montreal's starting second baseman. In 93 at bats he hit .323 with 5 HR and 16 RBI.
Saturday 4/30/1990: Milt Thompson out for 4-5 weeks
BOSTON - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Boston's rightfielder Milt Thompson will miss about 4-5 weeks after being hit by Ken Howell in the 9th inning of the game between Boston and Milwaukee. Broken Hand was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Thompson has hit for a .230 average this season. He has 4 extra base hits along with 31 total bases, resulting in a .274 slugging percentage.
Friday 4/29/1990: Los Angeles (N)'s Henke out for 6 weeks
LOS ANGELES (N) - Los Angeles (N) is without its ace Tom Henke for at least 6 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Ryne Sandberg in a game against Chicago (N).
