Saturday 10/1/2000: Rogers and Maddux receive Pitcher of the Month award
Kenny Rogers couldn't have pitched much better than he did in September, and the American League thought so as well, naming the southpaw Pitcher of the Month. He went 3-0 in September and finished the month with an ERA of 1.36. He struck out 31 in 39.2 innings. Kenny got two complete game shutouts as well! In 33 starts this year Kenny struck out 184 batters in 250.2 innings of work. His ERA is 1.69, his record 24-2. He has 7 complete games and 5 shutouts. The 37 year old pitched a no-hitter against Texas, showing the great stuff that made him famous for years. Johnson (27-3) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 2, throwing 107 pitches. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' Kenny Lofton provided Chicago (A) with the offense Johnson needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, and collecting 2 RBI. Chicago (A) improved its record to 117-44, scoring 4 runs on 12 hits.
