Tuesday 5/17/1972: Detroit's Jerry Kindall laces 2000th career hit
DETROIT - Detroit's second baseman Jerry Kindall already had some highlights in his career, and today he added another one, getting his 2000th career hit. Along with his 2000 hits, Jerry collected 326 homeruns and 1254 RBI in 11 seasons. 'Good things happen when you put the bat on the ball.' With no outs in the 2nd inning, Jerry drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd.
Monday 5/16/1972: Hall (CAL) and Cooper (CHN) win P.O.W. award
Tom Hall of California wins his 2nd Player of the Week award for dominating American League's hitters the entire week. He was in a zone all week, compiling an ERA of 0.00 while going 2-0. He hurled a shutout as well. This season Hall compiled an ERA of 1.03, going 9-1 in 10 starts. He fanned 53 while giving up 34 hits in 79 innings. Tom has pitched 3 shutouts and 4 complete games. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Chicago (N)'s first baseman Cecil Cooper had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Cooper helped his team with an average of .435 and 7 RBI in 23 at bats. He has hit 5 bombs while batting .287 this season. His 35 hits and 9 walks add up to a .326 on-base percentage.
Sunday 5/15/1972: Tom Hall fires 1-hitter against Milwaukee
CALIFORNIA - California's southpaw Tom Hall is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Milwaukee on just one hit. It's his 3rd shutout this season, and the 13th time he has done it in his career. Hall (9-1) fanned 6 and walked 3, throwing 106 pitches. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Tony Horton provided California with the offense Hall needed as he collected 2 hits in 4 trips to the plate, hitting a double, and driving in 2 runs. California improved its record to 27-11, scoring 7 runs on 10 hits.
Friday 5/13/1972: Dick Nold pitches his 1st shutout of the season
CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s offense is struggling, and Pittsburgh's Dick Nold didn't help them. The right-hander fired his 1st shutout of the season, a 2-hitter. Nold (2-4) fanned 1 and walked 4, throwing 121 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' The hitting star for Pittsburgh was rightfielder Richie Scheinblum, he collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate. Pittsburgh improved its record to 10-26, scoring 1 run on 2 hits.

LOS ANGELES (N) - Great days are rare. But not for Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Luis Tiant. New York (N) found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just 2 hits. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 29th time he has done it in his career. Tiant (3-2) fanned 9 and walked 1, throwing 112 pitches. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Ed Herrmann provided Los Angeles (N) with the offense Tiant needed as he stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, homering once, scoring twice. Los Angeles (N) scored 4 runs on 9 hits.
