Thursday 9/22/2003: Montreal's Overbay out for 4-5 weeks
MONTREAL - Montreal's Lyle Overbay suffered a serious injury Thursday in a game against Arizona. Overbay fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 4-5 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Pulled Achilles Tendon. Surgery will be performed next week. Lyle has gone 146 for 490 (.298) this season, hitting 13 longballs and driving in 89 runs. He has scored 77 runs on his own.
Thursday 9/22/2003: Sammy Sosa has 2000th career hits
BALTIMORE - Texas' Sammy Sosa showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Baltimore on Thursday. Along with his 2000 hits, Sammy collected 343 homeruns and 1260 RBI in 13 seasons. 'Baseball is a great game, and adding something to it's history is smething I've always wanted. What a great day!' He hit a double in the 4th off Manny Aybar for number 2000.
Wednesday 9/21/2003: Milwaukee has no chance in a 1-hitter by Bud Smith
HOUSTON - Bud Smith took the mound and never left. And Milwaukee hitters couldn't touch him at all. Houston's left-hander gave up just one hit in his 2nd shutout of the season. He now has 2 career shutouts in 28 games started. Smith (7-13) struck out 3 and walked 2, throwing 62 of 95 pitches for strikes. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Houston's centerfielder Darin Erstad finished 2 for 5, hitting a homerun, scoring two runs and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Smith. Houston scored 8 runs on 15 hits.

DETROIT - Detroit's pitcher Dave Fleming was part of a scary incident that saw the lefty being hit by a line drive in the 1st inning of the game between Detroit and Texas. Team trainers immediately rushed onto the field after the frightening scene. Fleming will miss about 5 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Fleming was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Hand. His ERA of 4.40 helped him to a 17-5 record this year. He struck out 87 and walked 45 in 200.1 innings. He's 9th in the American League in wins!
Monday 9/19/2003: Player of the Week honors go to Sosa and Frye
The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Texas' Sammy Sosa this time, as the rightfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He has collected 101 runs batted in this year. Jeff Frye from Montreal wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the National League.
