1. SP Carlos Zambrano Age 22
B/B/B/B/B
10/9/8/8/7/10 8 velo 5 pitches
A Duration
Notes: Great clutch performer, good consistency on the mound, repeatable delivery.
ETA: 2004
- Carlos Zambrano looks to be one of the premier ace pitchers from pitch one in the major leagues. Pitchers of his caliber don't comer around often and he will be a dominant force in the league for 15 years. Any team would be happy to have him in the 1 slot for the forseeable future.
2. SP Oliver Perez Age 22
B/G/G/G/B
10/9/7/7/6/9 9 velo 3 pitches
A Duration
Notes: Textbook team player, has no ego about being anywhere in the rotation. Good consistency on the mound, ups and downs are negligible.
ETA: 2004
- Oliver Perez couldn't be a better supplement to a frontline guy like Carlos Zambrano, playing through the minors together for years now, they'll both step into starting roles in 2004. Perez can't wait to flash his stuff and loves the game. Hopefully being able to see Zambrano pitch every 5 days will rub off on him and give him a confidence boost.
3. LF Matt Kemp Age 19
G/G/A/B/G/G
5/6/4/4/4/2
B/A Sp/St C Defense
Notes: Another student of the game, loves to play. Not much in the way of team leadership skills, but his play should be more than enough to stir some good morale on any team he takes the field for.
ETA: 2006-2007
- Matt Kemp is a 5 tool player, should hit for average, power, and do so with great plate control. Speed both on the bases and in the outfield make him available to all three outfield locations, increasing his stock even further. At 19, he is still a long ways off, but when he gets to the show, he's going to do damage.
4. SP Clay Hensley Age 24
G/B/B/B/A/ 7 velo 3 pitches
6/6/8/8/5/4
C Duration
Notes: Inconsistency is the main reason he's not #3 on this list. Duration is average, but with room to improve.
ETA: 2005-2006
- Clay Hensley is a perfect middle of the rotation pitcher, and every team needs a couple of those to succeed. Room to improve is there, maybe he becomes something even more? Needs to improve consistency to become more valuable in the long term.
5. C Ryan Hanigan Age 23
G/F/P/A/B/B
4/2/1/2/4/3
E/D Sp/St C Defense
Notes: Solid backstop with room to improve his pop. Needs to work on consistency at putting the barrel on the ball.
ETA: 2005-2006
- Ryan Hanigan projects as a solid backstop in a league starving for talent behind the plate. A good defensive catcher, having some pop and a decent bat makes him a desirable piece for this team long term. Team is hoping he takes some further steps in his development and takes a step into stardom.
