Monday 10/3/2003: Young and Plantier win Player of the Week award
Mike B. Young wins his 3rd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Mike B. was on fire, hitting .682 with 2 HR and 5 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 8 game hitting streak right now. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to St. Louis' Phil Plantier this time, as the leftfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .368 with 7 RBI and slugged .947 in 19 at bats.
Saturday 10/1/2003: Roberto Alomar has 3000th career hits
MINNESOTA - Roberto Alomar got a standing ovation from 59996 fans in Minnesota, who witnessed his 3000th career hit. He hit a single in the 8th off Rafael Betancourt for number 3000. In 14 years of big league action so far, Roberto has compiled a batting average of .318, along with 240 homeruns and 1264 RBI. 'Wow. That is all I can say now. I'm thrilled.' The Hall of Fame already has reserved a place for this great player.
Saturday 10/1/2003: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Winner of this months American League Pitcher of the Month award is Seattle's Paul Wagner. He started 6 games in September, going 5-0 and compiling an ERA of 1.57 in 46 innings. Paul fanned 57 hitters. Opposing players hit .209 against Paul this season. While posting an ERA of 2.19 he went 23-5 in 33 starts, fanning 238 and walking 30 hitters. He has 7 complete games and 3 shutouts. He's 2nd in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Tom Gordon is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in September. His record of 2-1 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 46.2 innings of work he allowed just 26 hits while striking out 51, compiling an ERA of just 0.58. Tom got two complete game shutouts as well! Tom has a record of 19-4 this season, with an ERA of 1.89. In 247.2 Innings he was able to strike out 294 batters. Tom has pitched 6 shutouts and 8 complete games. He's 3rd in the National League in ERA and 10th in wins!

Seattle's second baseman Mike B. Young had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. He hit .437 with 24 RBI and slugged .699 in 103 at bats. Young has walked 49 times this year and posts a .394 OBP. While batting .344, 213 for 619, he has driven in 102 runs. He's 4th in the American League in batting! Brian S. Giles of Chicago (N) wins his 3rd Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the National League. Brian S. pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .404 with 10 and 24 RBI while slugging .831. Brian S. has gone 182 for 551 (.330) this season, hitting 48 homeruns and driving in 139 runs. He has scored 126 runs on his own. He's 5th in the National League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 2nd in RBI!
