Thursday 6/23/2004: Shawn Wooten clubs three rockets
TEXAS - Texas' catcher Shawn Wooten flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 7-5 win over New York (A). A pitch from Roy Oswalt in the 2nd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 401 feet from home plate in left-center. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Roy Oswalt. A 470 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Roy Oswalt in the 6th inning. Overall he finished with 3 hits in 3 AB, with three runs scored with 3 RBI. In 2909 career at bats, he has hit 113 homeruns and collected 445 RBI. Derrek Lee was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 4/29/2004. Texas improved its record to 45-30, scoring 7 runs on 10 hits.
Wednesday 6/22/2004: Chris Reitsma (LAA) will miss 4 weeks
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s right-hander Chris Reitsma suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 4 weeks. In the 6th of the game against Toronto he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Back Muscle which will require surgery. His ERA of 6.47 helped him to a 1-6 record this year. He struck out 50 and walked 30 in 64 innings.
Tuesday 6/21/2004: Kyle Lohse turns in great performance against Los Angeles (N)
LOS ANGELES (N) - Montreal's right-hander Kyle Lohse will never forget this day. The 25-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Los Angeles (N) on Tuesday. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Lohse (3-7) fanned 4 and walked 1, throwing 105 pitches. The hitting star for Montreal was The final score of the game was 5-0.
Monday 6/20/2004: Hunter and Easley win Player of the Week award
The American League's best player of the week was Toronto's Torii Hunter, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. In 25 at bats he hit .560 with 0 HR and 5 RBI. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Atlanta's Damion Easley this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He had an on base percentage of .481 and hit .440, while driving in 10 runs.
Saturday 6/18/2004: J.C. Romero out for 6-7 weeks
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City's left-hander J.C. Romero suffered a severe injury on Saturday and will be out for at least 6-7 weeks. In the 8th of the game against Los Angeles (A) he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Tricep Tendon. J.C. has a record of 1-3 this season, with an ERA of 11.06. In 27.2 Innings he was able to strike out 14 batters.
