TAMPA BAY - Chicago (A)'s right-hander Darryl Kile is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Tampa Bay on just 2 hits. It's his 6th shutout this season, and the 22nd time he has done it in his career. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Kile (18-7) fanned 6 and walked 1, throwing 110 pitches. Bernie F. Williams provided Chicago (A) with the offense Kile needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, and collecting 2 RBI. Chicago (A) scored 3 runs on 8 hits.
Monday 8/22/2004: New York (A)'s Mark Teixeira ropes five hits
CLEVELAND - New York (A)'s first baseman Mark Teixeira accomplished a difficult feat in a 14-2 win over Cleveland, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .279! A pitch from Brad Penny in the 3rd inning left his bat for a double. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Julio Mateo in the 6th inning, landed an estimated 428 feet from home plate. A pitch from Winston Abreu in the 9th inning left his bat for a GRAND SLAM, landing 444 feet from home plate in left field. He collected singles in the 5th inning and in the 8th inning . Mark did drive in 5 while scoring 4 runs on his own. He is hitting .292 this season, with 21 HR and 57 RBI. New York (A) improved its record to 83-44, scoring 14 runs on 21 hits.
Monday 8/22/2004: Hundley (LAA) and White (PIT) win P.O.W. award
It's the 9th time that the American League Player of the Week award goes to Los Angeles (A)'s first baseman Todd Hundley. He hit .478 with 17 RBI and slugged 1.130 in 23 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. While compiling an on base percentage of .333, Todd hit .256 and slugged .504. He has collected 95 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the American League in RBIs and 6th in homeruns! The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Pittsburgh's Rondell White this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Rondell was on fire, hitting .423 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. Rondell is hitting .251 this year, with 109 hits in 434 at bats. He has driven in 97 runs, slugging .560. He's 7th in the National League in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns!

MILWAUKEE - Rondell White was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered Pittsburgh to a 20-3 win over Milwaukee by homering three times. A pitch from Carlos Pulido in the 3rd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 419 feet from home plate in center field. A 429 foot drive to center field marked his 2nd bomb, a solo homerun off Armando Almanza in the 6th inning. His 3rd shot, off Takashi Saito in the 8th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. Rondell finished with 4 hits in 6 AB, scoring FOUR times and collecting 4 RBI. His homerun total this year is 37, along with 97 RBI.
Thursday 8/18/2004: Dmitri Young out for full season <-- LOL
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's centerfielder Dmitri Young suffered a season ending injury when he hurt himself diving for a ball. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Torn Rib Cage Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. His season numbers are: .249 AVG, 103 hits, 27 doubles, one triple and 20 homeruns, along with 71 RBI and 70 runs scored.
