It's the 5th time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Minnesota's pitcher Robb Nen. His ERA of just 1.24 helped him to a 6-0 record in August. He worked 51 innings, striking out 55 hitters while walking 9. Robb pitched THREE complete game shutouts! His ERA of 1.48 helped him to a 24-1 record this year. He struck out 232 and walked 24 in 219 innings. He has 11 complete games and 7 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Pedro Martinez is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. He went 4-1 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.09. Minnesota's designated hitter Manny Ramirez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. Manny was on fire, hitting .349 with 9 homeruns and 26 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .396, Manny hit .330 and slugged .625. He has collected 110 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the American League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Troy Glaus, Chicago (N)'s starting third baseman. He hit .370 with 26 RBI and slugged .730 in 100 at bats. While compiling an on base percentage of .381, Troy hit .327 and slugged .615. He has collected 133 runs batted in this year. He's 3rd in the National League in batting, 4th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
Monday 8/29/2004: Williams and Johnson win Player of the Week award
Bernie F. Williams from Chicago (A) wins his 10th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. In 25 at bats he hit .480 with 4 HR and 9 RBI. Bernie F. managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! While compiling an on base percentage of .416, Bernie F. hit .334 and slugged .628. He has collected 112 runs batted in this year. He's 3rd in the American League in batting, 2nd in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! The National League's best player of the week was Colorado's Nick Johnson, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Sunday 8/28/2004: Los Angeles (A)'s Schilling severely injured
LOS ANGELES (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s ace Curt Schilling suffered a severe injury on Sunday and will be out for at least 5 weeks. In the 1st of the game against Tampa Bay he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After being taken to a local hospital, Schilling was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Bicep Muscle. This season Schilling compiled an ERA of 4.75, going 6-7 in 26 starts. He fanned 85 while giving up 113 hits in 125 innings.
Friday 8/26/2004: Adam Kennedy (PHI) will miss 9 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's second baseman Adam Kennedy will miss about 9 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 2nd inning of the game between Philadelphia and Milwaukee. He fielded a ball off the bat of Roosevelt Brown, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. After being taken to a local hospital, Kennedy was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Ruptured Tricep Tendon. His season features a batting average of .193 (77 hits in 399 AB), 13 doubles, one triple and 12 taters. Kennedy collected 35 RBI and 33 runs as well.

TEXAS - When it rains, it pours. Texas' right-hander Jeff Zimmerman will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against New York (A) where he left the field in the 6th inning. Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital.
