Monday 9/5/2004: Florida's Youkilis severely injured
FLORIDA - Florida's Kevin Youkilis suffered a serious injury Monday in a game against Philadelphia. Youkilis fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 4-5 weeks. Florida wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Youkilis had suffered a Torn Abdominal Muscle. Youkilis has hit for a .250 average this season. He has 38 extra base hits along with 162 total bases, resulting in a .355 slugging percentage.
Monday 9/5/2004: Player of the Week honors go to Lee and Damon
Derrek Lee from Baltimore wins his 1st Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Derrek was on fire, hitting .429 with 3 HR and 6 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Johnny Damon, Chicago (N)'s starting centerfielder. He hit .480 with 7 RBI and slugged .960 in 25 at bats. His season features a batting average of .305 (169 hits in 554 AB), 40 doubles, 5 triples and 36 longballs. Damon collected 111 RBI and 122 runs as well. He's 4th in the National League in RBIs and 8th in homeruns!
Sunday 9/4/2004: St. Louis' Ray Lankford laces 2000th career hit
MILWAUKEE - St. Louis' centerfielder Ray Lankford joined some elite company today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a double in the 2nd off Carlos Pulido for number 2000. In 14 years of big league action so far, Ray has compiled a batting average of .266, along with 271 homeruns and 1105 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'
Friday 9/2/2004: Boston's Curtis severely injured
BOSTON - Cleveland's Eric Knott drilled Boston's centerfielder Chad Curtis in the 7th inning. He was slow getting up and had to leave the game. Chad Curtis will miss at least 8 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Broken Wrist. Surgery will be performed next week. He has hit 10 taters while batting .229 this season. His 109 hits and 15 walks add up to a .269 on-base percentage.
Thursday 9/1/2004: Nen (MIN) and Martinez (LAN) win monthly pitcher award
It's the 5th time that the American League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Minnesota's pitcher Robb Nen. His ERA of just 1.24 helped him to a 6-0 record in August. He worked 51 innings, striking out 55 hitters while walking 9. Robb pitched THREE complete game shutouts! His ERA of 1.48 helped him to a 24-1 record this year. He struck out 232 and walked 24 in 219 innings. He has 11 complete games and 7 shutouts. He's 1st in the American League in ERA and 1st in wins! Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Pedro Martinez is the National League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. He went 4-1 in August and finished the month with an ERA of 1.09. He struck out 61 in 49.2 innings. Pedro also fired a shutout. In 28 starts this year Pedro struck out 256 batters in 227.1 innings of work. His ERA is 2.26, his record 17-6. He has 6 complete games and 2 shutouts.

Minnesota's designated hitter Manny Ramirez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Batter of the Month. Manny was on fire, hitting .349 with 9 homeruns and 26 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .396, Manny hit .330 and slugged .625. He has collected 110 runs batted in this year. He's 5th in the American League in batting, 3rd in homeruns and 3rd in RBI! The National League Batter of the Month award goes to Troy Glaus, Chicago (N)'s starting third baseman.
