Here a list of the most likely Dodgers to be traded before opening day 2005.
I’m going to start with a curveball, I mean it a baseball blog right..
Curveball:
SP prospect Felipe Paulino. There has been a ton of buzz around Paulino since we was acquired for Yankee reject Jeff Austin. Paulino is 2-3 years away from making his Dodger debut and the fans are clamoring for him to be traded for another MLB ready ACE. While it makes sense in the short term it would be nice to pair the 21 year old with future Dodger Legend Clayton Kershaw.
Potential Suitors Philadelphia, Baltimore, Texas and Florida.
1. First Baseman. David Ortiz. Elite 1st Baseman. 35 HRs 116 RBIs and an All Star appearance. Why in the world is Ortiz on the block? 20 million reasons. Ortiz said all the right things to the fans and media last seasons but behind closed doors he wanted to get PAID and he did. I would expect him to get moved for a young bat or a collection of draft picks.
Potential suitors, San Francisco, Philadelphia or Washington .
2. Jim Thome Elite Second Baseman. .897 Career OPS, 3.87 Career OBP, 375 HRs, 1200 RBIs and 7 All Star Appearances. Who would want to acquire this 34 Slugger. I would expect him to moved from a top 15 pick or a 4.5 star prospect.
Potential suitors Atlanta, Baltimore, LA Angels.
3. Juan Gonzalez- Studly Out fielder. One of the few elite 40/40 guys left in the MLB. Last year Juan hit 44 HRs and Stole 52 Bags. .919 OPs. If Ortiz doesn’t get moved first Juan could be headed elsewhere next season.
Possible suitors St Louis, Pittsburg or Seattle.
4. Paul Shuey - Top Flight Closer. Team friendly contract 4-2 with 36 saves on 2004. 80 strikeouts in 62 inning pitched.
Potential suitors Philadelphia, Washington and Baltimore.
5. Brian Cooper - Live arm Reliver. Team friendly contract. 2-0 with a 4.5 ERA in 2004.
Potential suitors Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Detroit.
Honorable Mention:
Starting Pitcher Marcus Jones. 29 year old with nice ratings and one year of MLB service. He was 3-2 with 1 save in 20 games last season.
Potential suitors San Francisco, Floria and Washington.
