This feels like the beginning of the end.
What a run!
After seemingly an entire decade of chasing the mighty SF Giants. Your LA Dodgers won 5 of 6 and 4 straight NL west titles. Along with back to back to back to back NL pennants. With one World Championship to show for their efforts.
Things feel like they’re starting to slip away before our eyes. In the past two years we have lost two dominate ACE’s in controversial trades. The third ACE of the group and longest tenured Dodger in Tom Gordon is in the final year of his contract and isn’t expected to be extended.
“I spoke with GM Jmich24 after the disappointing loss in the World Series to the dominate Twins. We’ve agreed it’s time for a youth movement in LA after this year. I am at peace with the decision. It’s has been a magical run. I hope to come back here after I retire and become the pitching coach, if they will have me.” Said Tom Gordon.
Other aging veterans include Second Basement Jim Thome, Right Fielder Juan Gonzalez and Shortstop Shane Andrews. Thome is still recovering from a torn elbow ligament suffered in game 4 of the World Series.
GM Jmich24 is balancing on a fine line trying to stay competitive while getting the youngsters time at the big league level. “We know our bloated payroll isn’t sustainable. I fully expect a few more trades this off-season. If these trades don’t come to fruition ownership has given their blessing to lose some money in an attempt to get another championship.” Said GM JMich24
2006/2007 is looking like more of a realistic goal for a twenty five percent reduction in the current payroll.
