After waiting for a few weeks to let their franchises wounds heal after yet another disappointing just miss at a post season berth. The Chicago White Sox announced a major renovation being finished just before the start of the 1959 season that’ll add just under 13.000 seats to Comiskey Park. General Manager Mark Lierman was asked about the changes to Comiskey Park and had only a few things to say. “It’s about time we maximize the potential of this historic franchise and also get as many of our great fans out to each and every game at Comiskey as we can.”
Comiskey Park opened on July 1st 1910 and currently had 47,400 seats. The renovation will take it to just 5,000 below the league maximum at 60,000 seats in Comiskey. The added revenue is sure to help the franchise that has been on the cusp of greatness for the last few years only to be barely beaten out by their division competition in the New York Yankees and now the Detroit Tigers. The Yankees are gone but the pesky Tigers remain an obstacle in the White Sox way.
White Sox Aces Billy Pierce and Mike Fornieless both stated it is going to be exciting to play in front of so many fans. Them along with a strong team filled strong vets like speedy Minnie Minoso and young stars Earl Battey, Lindy Mcdaniel, Mudcat Grant and Joe Cunningham are going to give any rival team a run this year. The added addition of a healthy Woodie Held and later in the season a strong veteran arm like Connor Johnson will be an added boost to an already dangerous roster.
The 1959 season is sure to be an exciting season for the White Sox and their newly renovated Comiskey Park is sure to please the crowd. Along with the new seating added luxuries such as more souvenier and food stands have been added so those long lines won’t be a problem for fans to get back to their seats and enjoy the ballgame. A few secret luxuries have been added for the players as well to keep a nice healthy and happy team after a 1958 season that saw a lot of major injuries to key players that could have made that 1 game deficit to the Detroit Tigers look a lot different.
The total cost to get to 60,000 seats will be at $53,900,000. The added seating will be entirely funded by the Chicago White Sox franchise and they wanted to let the fans know that no public money would be used in this endeavour as they have run a clean and successful franchise financially to bring about these changes for the franchise and their fans.
Here’s looking forward to a successful 1959 season of Chicago White Sox baseball that this reporter and the fans are sure to enjoy.
