A number of recent key acquisitions renews hope in KC of a playoff run, made more daunting by playing in dominant AL Central. The Royals recently signed free agent starting pitchers Randy Tomlin and Gary Glover to create a stable of plus-starters that is anchored by Chris Carpenter and Andy Pettitte and accompanied by proven vets Matt Morris, Mike Hampton, and the emerging Aaron Myette. The bullpen is young and steady, led by dominant closer Ugueth Urbina. A lineup that already features 3B Jason Giambi, OF Garret Anderson, 1B Trot Nixon, CF Coco Crisp and C Victor Martinez has been bolstered by recent acquisitions OF Willie Greene, 2B Shea Hillenbrand, and SS Alex Gonzalez. With aggressive revenue enhancements and a go-for-broke approach, this $100 million roster should remain intact for the next 3-4 seasons. Is it enough?
