Monday 4/18/2005: Minnesota's Ramirez wins Player of the Week award
Minnesota's centerfielder Manny Ramirez had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Ramirez helped his team with an average of .435 and 8 RBI in 23 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! His season numbers are: .370 AVG, 20 hits, 4 doubles, no triples and 6 taters, along with 15 RBI and 15 runs scored. He's 9th in the American League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Atlanta's Miguel Ojeda this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. In 24 at bats he hit .417 with 4 HR and 6 RBI. While compiling an on base percentage of .358, Miguel hit .327 and slugged .735. He has collected 11 runs batted in this year.
Friday 4/15/2005: Gary Glover (KCR) will miss 5-6 weeks
KANSAS CITY - When it rains, it pours. Kansas City's right-hander Gary Glover will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against New York (A) where he left the field in the 4th inning. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Bone Chips Shoulder. Gary has a record of 1-1 this season, with an ERA of 6.23. In 13 Innings he was able to strike out 7 batters.
Wednesday 4/13/2005: Kansas City's Kevin Millar ropes five hits
NEW YORK (A) - Kevin Millar saw the ball really well, leading Kansas City to a 13-2 win over New York (A). His five hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Kevin seemed happy as well after the game. Number 3 in the 5th inning, a shot estimated at 430 feet, cleared the wall in left field. His 5th hit, a three-run homerun off Eddie Guardado in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 417 feet from home plate. He had singles in the 2nd inning , in the 4th inning and in the 7th . Kevin did drive in 4 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .429.
Monday 4/11/2005: Los Angeles (A)'s Ken Griffey Jr. crushes homerun #500
SEATTLE - Los Angeles (A)'s leftfielder Ken Griffey Jr. made baseball history today, collecting his 500th career homerun! The historic drive, a two-run homerun off Paul Wagner in the 1st inning, landed an estimated 423 feet from home plate. In 16 years of big league action so far, Ken has compiled a batting average of .264, along with 2405 hits and 1616 RBI. Ken hit 30+ homeruns in a season 7 times, hitting 40 bombs 5 times. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!

The American League Player of the Week award goes to Brian S. Giles, Boston's starting rightfielder. Brian S. pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .444 with 4 HR and 5 RBI while slugging .963. Pittsburgh's centerfielder Rondell White had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. White helped his team with an average of .355 and 19 RBI in 31 at bats.
Saturday 4/9/2005: Jason Dickson pitches his 1st shutout of the season
COLORADO - Colorado's right-hander Jason Dickson will never forget this day. The 32-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Milwaukee on Saturday. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Dickson (1-1) fanned 4 and walked 1, throwing 104 pitches. Jose Vidro provided Colorado with the offense Dickson needed as he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, hitting a homerun, and collecting 3 RBI. Colorado improved its record to 4-3, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits.

PHILADELPHIA - When it rains, it pours. Philadelphia's ace Ben Sheets will not pitch for at least 5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Washington where he left the field in the 7th inning. Philadelphia wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Sheets had suffered a Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle.

NEW YORK (N) - When it rains, it pours. New York (N)'s left-hander Scott Karl will not pitch for at least 8 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Chicago (N) where he left the field in the 4th inning. Pulled Rotator Cuff Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials.

CLEVELAND - Cleveland's offense is struggling, and Minnesota's Robb Nen didn't help them. The right-hander fired his 1st shutout of the season, a 1-hitter. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today.' Nen (1-0) was overpowering, fanning 10 while walking 1, throwing 109 pitches. ATLANTA - Atlanta's right-hander Greg Maddux gained immortality by recording his 400th win in the big leagues. Maddux went 9 innings. He allowed 0 earned runs , giving up 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 0 earned runs. His career features a 2.08 ERA, along with 3690 K's in 5029 innings. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' He has won 20 games 14 times in his career, setting a career high with 26 wins in 1993. The Hall of Fame is already waiting for this great player.

ARIZONA - Age doesn't matter. At least Los Angeles (N)'s right-hander Tom Gordon shares this opinion. The 37 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against Arizona, recording his 1st shutout of the season. Gordon (1-0) was overpowering, fanning 12 while walking none, throwing 125 pitches. 'I hit the corners with all of my pitches. That helped a lot!' Juan Gonzalez helped Gordon at the plate, he collected 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring 2 runs. Los Angeles (N) improved its record to 1-0, scoring 4 runs on 9 hits.
