Hey Braves fans the old fossils keep on running off some wins. There was some concern to start the week with back to back losses to the Reds, which is what happens when a team starts feeling cocky and expecting to win against a club with no hitting.
In Smoltz’s only start of the week he faced off in the 3rd game of the Reds series and stopped the slide picking up his fifth win of the season. He now is just four shy of the magical four hundred wins, and if he gets those, he will only be the third pitcher ever to achieve such notoriety.
Building off of Smoltz’s start the team rebounded and played like they should rattling off 4 more wins to sweep Houston in Houston.
Catcher Ojeda continues to have a hot bat and is tied with Houston’s Utley for the Home run lead each has eleven.
Smoltz has continued his blistering attack agains batters and now has 61 strikeouts in six starts.
After one month down the Braves have a seven game lead in the East and are now being chased by the Phillies, with the Marlins falling off so far this season. It looks like the competition at the top is changing for who wants to finally knock off the Braves from their historic run of pennants.
Abbot also kept pace with Smoltz and picked up his fifth win this past week and the two of them are five and oh to start the 2005 season.
And in honor of the concert we'll be at tonight....
