It is the end of May, lets see how our Braves are doing this past week covering may 25 – June 1st
Nomo after having a masterpiece his first game as a Brave, looks like the same shell of himself that opened the season on the Yankees. He picked up two of the Braves three losses on the week.
For the week the Braves went four and three. Smoltz is still out for another two to three weeks, which is allowing Maddux to increase his win count over him, which he did. Maddux notched two wins this past week giving him eight on the season thus far, and pushing him to 407 on his career. He needs 15 more wins to get to the all time win lead and 16 to break it.
Abbot has really stepped up this season, and also pikked up two wins this week, pushing him to 9-1 on the season. He still looks so much better since coming to Atlanta versus the beginning of his career.
Valverde continues his assault on trying to break Corbett’s record for most saves in a season, now up to 23 on the year, picking up three more this week.
Damon Easley is trying to convince the brass to resign him, hitting .481 with two dingers in the last seven games. It will be interesting to see if the team can keep him on with their ballooned payroll. Keeping him is hard to justify with his salary when the team is getting the same power and or more from several other players. Might be time to move on from him.
As a team the Braves are sucking when it comes to the general skill of hitting to get on base. Hopefully for the team, Klesco, Archi, and Sherman get their act together and start hitting.
