Braves 6/9
Hot Dog Braves fans, the went 6-1 last week.
Maddux has been on fire of late and is 3-0 with a 0.68 ERA in his last three starts which included a complete game shut out this past week in his only start. After a slow start he is now 9-2 on the season and now just 14 wins shy of tying the all time record in wins.
Nomo continues to be horrible for the Braves. While he picked up a win against the Mets, it’s only because the offence bailed him out. He gave up 6 runs in 6 innings and got a win. He is now 2-3 as a Brave but has given up 15 runs in his last 25 innings.
Valverde only picked up two saves in the 6 wins, but still leads the league with 25 saves. For the week they started with a win over Washington, then swept 3 from the Mets, and finished 2-1 against the Cards, with the loss being the last game of the week, snapping an 8 game winning streak.
Currently Abbot is second in wins in the league, and Maddux is 3rd. Smoltz still is out 1 to 2 more weeks. Braves management cannot wait to get him back so they can move Nomo to a different spot in the rotation.
This past week Smoltz, Renteria, Boone and Barker all signed multi year extensions which should keep the braves in contention for the post season for at least a couple more years.
