Thursday 6/23/2005: Cleveland's Duchscherer severely injured
CLEVELAND - Cleveland's right-hander Justin Duchscherer will not pitch again this year, suffering a serious injury in the game against Boston on Thursday. After being taken to a local hospital, Duchscherer was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Torn Bicep Muscle. Justin has a record of 5-2 this season, with an ERA of 4.00. In 45 Innings he was able to strike out 38 batters.
Wednesday 6/22/2005: Brad Hawpe punishes Pittsburgh with three dingers
PITTSBURGH - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Philadelphia's first baseman Brad Hawpe accomplished that feat in a 12-11 win over Pittsburgh. His 1st shot, off Oliver Perez in the 2nd inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Matt Mantei in the 6th inning, cleared the fence in right field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Brian Bruney in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 386 feet from home plate. Brad got 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times and driving in 5 runs. So far this season he is batting .243 with 7 homers and 28 RBI.
Monday 6/20/2005: St. Louis' Aven wins Player of the Week award
Todd Hundley from Los Angeles (A) wins his 11th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the American League. Todd went 10 for 21 (.476), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 5 RBI. Hundley has hit 12 bombs this year while batting .275. He adds 12 doubles, along with 34 runs scored. The National League's best player of the week was St. Louis' Bruce Aven, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Aven helped his team with an average of .500 and 7 RBI in 20 at bats. This year Aven drove in 52 and scored 53 runs while batting .287 with 24 homeruns.
