Braves 7/12 The Braves came out of the All Star break on fire. Winning five of the six games this past week. They took two from Florida at home, then two of three from the Cubs at home, and finished with a win in Houston. Abbot was the hard luck starter that got the only loss on the week. Valverde picked up saves in the only two games that qualified for a save and now has 31 on the season. That’s a great total, but it is no longer good enough for sole position of most saves, as the Sandman is now tied with him. Smoltz is looking pretty dang good since returning from his injury and is four and oh in four games in that time period. In his last three he has only given up two runs in the almost 24 innings pitched. He now has 402 wins and is 20 games back from the all time record. Maddux has a slight lead and has 412 wins, just ten shy of the all time record. Maddux also picked up two wins in his two starts after the break and now has a 13 – 5 record on the season. He has a decent chance of getting back into the 20 win season category after missing it for the first time last year after previously getting 20 or more in 11 straight seasons and 14 times overall. Francisco Cordova has really made a name for himself since moving to the starting rotation and is 8-3 with a sub 3 ERA. At age 33 he will likely be a starter for several seasons to come.
