Monday 7/18/2005: Vladimir Guerrero out for 6 weeks
WASHINGTON - Washington's players were scared when they had to watch Vladimir Guerrero suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Houston. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Guerrero will probaby miss 6 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Broken Ribs. His season features a batting average of .261 (92 hits in 353 AB), 16 doubles, 6 triples and 18 taters. Guerrero collected 56 RBI and 60 runs as well.
Monday 7/18/2005: Colorado's Vidro wins Player of the Week award
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Wilton Guerrero, Chicago (A)'s starting shortstop. Guerrero helped his team with an average of .429 and 10 RBI in 21 at bats. This year Guerrero drove in 56 and scored 42 runs while batting .275 with 7 bombs. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Jose Vidro, Colorado's starting second baseman. Jose pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .522 with 4 HR and 11 RBI while slugging 1.130.
Sunday 7/17/2005: Pittsburgh's Hudson out for 6 weeks
PITTSBURGH - When it rains, it pours. Pittsburgh's right-hander Tim Hudson will not pitch for at least 6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against St. Louis where he left the field in the 6th inning. Hudson was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 20 starts this year Tim struck out 130 batters in 114 innings of work. His ERA is 2.84, his record 8-3.
Sunday 7/17/2005: Pittsburgh's Burnitz out for 7-8 weeks
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh's players were scared when they had to watch Jeromy Burnitz suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against St. Louis. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Burnitz will probaby miss 7-8 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Fractured Hand. Surgery will be performed next week. This year Burnitz drove in 47 and scored 39 runs while batting .280 with 3 bombs.
Sunday 7/17/2005: Chris R. Young blanks Los Angeles (N) with a 2-hitter
LOS ANGELES (N) - Philadelphia's right-hander Chris R. Young is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Los Angeles (N) found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Young 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 2nd shutouts in his career. Young (8-5) struck out 2 and issued 1 BB, throwing 61 of 104 pitches for strikes. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Eric Byrnes helped Young at the plate, he collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate. The final score of the game was 2-0.
