Braves 7/19
That last week started pretty crappy for the Braves, starting 1 - 3 on the week, but thankfully they got the ship righted and finished with 3 wins to avoid a losing week with a final record of 4 – 3. Valverde really used the week to his advantage and picked up a save in each of the wins, and he now has 35 on the season, regaining the sole lead in the league.
Three pitchers in the league are tied for most wins with 14, alas none are Braves, as the Braves only have three with 13 wins. Smoltz, Maddux, and Abbot are a combined 39 – 9 on the season, and Smoltz missed five and a half weeks! This threesome should be a pretty potent group come the post season.
The main concern for the team is the team batting average, as they have sunk down to 19th with a paltry .253 hitting average.
More and more it seems like they are just hoping someone will uncork the long ball, which so far has been one of the teams strengths, with 122 on the season, which is 6th best! Ojeda continues his slump with the long ball, with only six in June and July and none in his last 10 games, after knocking out 16 in April and May. Cedeno has added four more in his last 10 and now has 20 on the season, and old man Cianfrocco is third on the team with 19.
Archi at 38 is now looking like a longshot to get to 400 on his career as he is 22 shy, but that said he has to be one of the all time greats at SS for HoFFBl, with maybe only Tim Rains and Chipper Jones having more at SS? Maybe he has another season left in him? His is signed through next years so we can hope. 378 and counting for Archi, this looks like the next countdown to 400 for the Braves. Who would have thought he would turn into the monster that he has when the Braves drafted him in the fourth round of the 87 draft.
The number 4 rock song of 05...
