Monday 7/25/2005: Player of the Week honors go to Greene and Beltran
Kansas City's rightfielder Willie Greene had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the American League Player of the Week. Greene helped his team with an average of .520 and 8 RBI in 25 at bats. Greene has hit for a .306 average this season. He has 52 extra base hits along with 190 total bases, resulting in a .586 slugging percentage. The National League's best player of the week was Cincinnati's Carlos Beltran, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. He hit .500 with 12 RBI and slugged .958 in 24 at bats. Carlos has gone 102 for 361 (.283) this season, hitting 21 bombs and driving in 71 runs. He has scored 57 runs on his own.
Sunday 7/24/2005: Adrian Beltre (SEA) will miss 5 weeks
SEATTLE - Seattle's third baseman Adrian Beltre hurt himself in the 4th inning while making a routine throw to first base. He experienced serious pain and had to leave the game. Adrian Beltre will miss at least 5 weeks. After being taken to a local hospital, Beltre was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Tricep Muscle. Beltre has hit 16 longballs this year while batting .343. He adds 24 doubles, along with 60 runs scored. He's 4th in the American League in batting!
Saturday 7/23/2005: Peter Moylan (PIT) will miss 7-8 weeks lol
PITTSBURGH - Pittsburgh is without its right-hander Peter Moylan for at least 7-8 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Shane Victorino in a game against Chicago (N). His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 3.58 helped him to a 2-5 record this year. He struck out 11 and walked 23 in 37.2 innings.
