HoFFBL dog days of Summer report The AL.
At the mid point of August as the heat is brutal to all, the league finds that not too much has changed.
In the AL East, the Yankees continue to control their own destiny with a six game lead on the Oriels. Baltimore has been pretty red hot of late but just has not been able to close much on the Yanks. With a payroll of 116 million the Yanks are going for it all. Baltimore looks to burn through 21 million of their war chest this season with their payroll, but that is nothing compared to Boston’s plan of spending 26 million more than they make, for a 500 team. Not sure what is going on in in Toronto, but they look to lose money on the season too, and they are rebuilding. Tampa is no better as they look to lose money too and they might not even make the magic mark in wins to qualify for the lotto.
Minnesota is on cruise control, and pulling away from Detroit. What used to be a one game lead is now six. Detroit fallin off a bit has led to hope being raised in Kansas City as now the Royals are a mere four games back from the Tigers for the wild card birth. Chicago continues to win a tad too much for the benefit, but they have some great players on the tail end of their careers that want to go out as White Sox, but since they are still so dang good, they are winning games. Cleveland hopes they are gonna jump when lotto time comes in another month or so.
Out in the West, for a little while it looked like it might get exciting, and then Texas fell asleep again. Seattle is at an 8 game lead, that doesn’t look like it will change anytime soon. We will just call it now, and say Seattle will win the division. Texas tried to make it interesting, alas this continues to be just a two team division when it comes to who will be the pennant winner.
The Bold prediction is NYY, MIN, SEA with DET as the WC.
