Monday 8/22/2005: Chan Ho Park blanks San Francisco with a 1-hitter
SAN FRANCISCO - Chan Ho Park had some fun again. San Francisco hitters did not. Arizona's right-hander gave up just one hit in his 5th shutout of the season. He now has 28 career shutouts in 340 games started. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Park (16-6) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking 2, throwing 113 pitches. Arizona's shortstop Jose Reyes got 4 hits in 5 AB, going deep twice, stroking a double, scoring 2 runs and driving in 6 runs. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Park. The final score of the game was 13-0.
Monday 8/22/2005: Player of the Week honors go to Nieves and Green
The American League Player of the Week award goes to Melvin Nieves, Minnesota's starting rightfielder. Melvin went 9 for 25 (.360), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 11 RBI. Nieves has hit for a .262 average this season. He has 43 extra base hits along with 209 total bases, resulting in a .517 slugging percentage. Cincinnati's first baseman Shawn Green had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the National League Player of the Week. Green helped his team with an average of .423 and 11 RBI in 26 at bats.
Sunday 8/21/2005: Matt Holliday out for 5 weeks
SEATTLE - Seattle's centerfielder Matt Holliday hurt himself in the 4th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Matt Holliday will miss at least 5 weeks. Seattle wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Holliday had suffered a Fractured Hand. Matt has gone 130 for 370 (.351) this season, hitting 19 homeruns and driving in 84 runs. He has scored 72 runs on his own. He's 2nd in the American League in batting!
