Wednesday 9/7/2005: Florida's Ohka severely injured
FLORIDA - Florida's right-hander Tomo Ohka experienced probably the worst case scenario for a pitcher, a season ending injury. After pitching in the 7th inning of the game against Milwaukee, Ohka complained about serious pain in his throwing arm. He had to leave the game. Ohka was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Torn Rotator Cuff Muscle. In 26 starts this year Tomo struck out 114 batters in 161 innings of work. His ERA is 4.64, his record 9-13.
Monday 9/5/2005: Baltimore's Davis wins Player of the Week award
Russ Davis wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. In 23 at bats he hit .478 with 2 HR and 6 RBI. The National League Player of the Week award goes to Eli Marrero, Colorado's starting catcher. Eli went 13 for 22 (.591), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 3 RBI. Eli has gone 142 for 501 (.283) this season, hitting 19 bombs and driving in 80 runs. He has scored 72 runs on his own.
Sunday 9/4/2005: Chris R. Young (PHI) will miss 4-5 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - When it rains, it pours. Philadelphia's right-hander Chris R. Young will not pitch for at least 4-5 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Atlanta where he left the field in the 1st inning. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Bicep Muscle which will require surgery. This season Young compiled an ERA of 3.99, going 10-7 in 26 starts. He fanned 97 while giving up 113 hits in 158 innings. He has 7 complete games and 2 shutouts.
Saturday 9/3/2005: Jeff Weaver pitches 2-hit shutout against Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE - Chicago (N)'s right-hander Jeff Weaver is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Milwaukee on just 2 hits. It's his 5th shutout this season, and the 9th time he has done it in his career. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when David Wright tripled with one out in the 5th inning. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Weaver (15-5) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 9. Dmitri Young provided Chicago (N) with the offense Weaver needed as he collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, blasting a homerun, scoring twice and driving in 3 runs. Chicago (N) scored 9 runs on 11 hits.
Friday 9/2/2005: Henry A. Rodriguez collects 2000th hit against New York (N)
COLORADO - Colorado's Henry A. Rodriguez showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against New York (N) on Friday. With two outs in the 1st inning, Henry A. drilled a single, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. In 13 years of big league action so far, Henry A. has compiled a batting average of .275, along with 383 homeruns and 1370 RBI. 'This day is special, I'll probably remember it my whole life. Thank god I'm blessed with the talent to play this game.'

ATLANTA - Age doesn't matter. At least Atlanta's right-hander Greg Maddux shares this opinion. The 39 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Arizona, recording his 4th shutout of the season. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Maddux (20-8) struck out 3 and issued 1 BB, throwing 57 of 89 pitches for strikes. Atlanta's shortstop Archi Cianfrocco stroked 1 hit in 3 AB, blasting a homerun. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Maddux. Atlanta scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
