Well get the fuckin ticker tape parade ready Braves fan. Maddux finally did it, and now is the all time winningest pitcher EVER*. At the outset of the season Maddux needed 23 wins to move into a tie for all time most wins, so after last seasons 18 wins and the season before only having 20, it seemed like a long shot. But Greg, pulled a Greg and even though he is getting long in the tooth, went 23-9 in 35 starts, to allow him to reach the hollowed ground of the most wins ever by a pitcher!
If Greg retired today, he would be 3rd all time for lowest ERA, 1st for wins, 11th all time for K’s, and 3rd all time for the most complete game shutouts. Even though he is 3rd all time for CGSO, he needs another 5 complete games to hit the top 25 for complete games. What is even more ironic, is Smoltz has 12 more complet game shut outs than Maddux, but needs 30 more complete games to tie Maddux for simple complete games!
