Saturday 10/1/2005: Burnett (SEA) and Weaver (CHN) win monthly pitcher award
A.J. Burnett couldn't have pitched much better than he did in September, and the American League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He started 6 games in September, going 5-0 and compiling an ERA of 2.20 in 49 innings. A.J. fanned 56 hitters. A.J. pitched a shutout as well. In 32 starts this year A.J. struck out 222 batters in 246.2 innings of work. His ERA is 3.83, his record 20-6. A.J. has pitched one shutout and 4 complete games. He's 4th in the American League in wins! It's the 2nd time that the National League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Chicago (N)'s pitcher Jeff Weaver. He had an ERA of just 0.69 in 52.1 innings of work in which he struck out 45 hitters. His record in September is 4-1. Jeff fired two shutouts! Opposing players hit .209 against Jeff this season. While posting an ERA of 1.96 he went 18-6 in 33 starts, fanning 222 and walking 26 hitters. Jeff has pitched 6 shutouts and 12 complete games.

I was able to do it today.' Smoltz (27-2) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking none, throwing 117 pitches. Archi Cianfrocco provided Atlanta with the offense Smoltz needed as he finished with 3 hits in 4 AB, doubling twice, scoring 2 runs. The final score of the game was 7-0.
